my first roll...

Heygate

I shot these images around the London College of Communications specifically so that I would have something to work on in the dark room suites straight after induction.  In the prime location right next to the Elephant and Castle tube sits a massive abandoned council estate awaiting demolition.  Completed in 1974, Heygate once incorporated 1,260 council dwellings.

The saddest thing about it for me wasn't the lost homes but the loss of a potentially groovy office block.  Decked out in Lucienne Day prints and morgensen sofas and B&N cabinets and stuff.  Artist studios; recording studios; student accommodation for the budding artists and media folk who make up my peers at the LCC.  I don't weep for Utopia, me.  I just dislike waste.  Someone should give the nod to the Occupy people or maybe another Eran Safrir could transform the whole thing into an art installation...

Were there ever any incidences of necklacing in London?

View from the Tower Block on a particularly unclear day.  I must find out how it is I've made Tri-x look so grainy though.  Metro Imaging wouldn't have given anyone smog.
